Nostalgia Trip 2

 

 

After our first attempt at a double cross didn't quite have the anticipated result we'd hoped for, I remember Mello recommended that his Chi-town sister Rose, being more tech-savvy and with great knowledge and taste plus a huge set of tunes might be a better collaborator So this double cross collaboration by DustyRose and me came out back in January 2010. It was the second ever post on the original blogspot version of tomorrowsvelvetdreamz. Remember the concept: we both sent six tracks to each other; then we reacted to the other's picks by choosing six further tracks each. And on this one, the listeners got to see the creative process because we wrote a little piece on each of the second set of picks to show what was going through our minds in response to the originals. Hope you like it; Rose and I loved the concept at the time ! RB

Though he is not as well remembered today, vocalist Roy Hamilton was an extremely popular and influential hitmaker during his short career in the 1950s. A man of many talents - a boxer, an artist and one of the all time great singers. Hamilton died in 1969 at a young age of 40 years old. His voice and legacy have earned numerous accolades, including induction in the Hit Parade Hall of Fame and Reflections in Black Museum Hall of Fame....If I had to choose one of his songs, it would have to be one of my favorites by the Beatles.

Both DustyRose and I have featured Monitors’ tracks previously and their 60’s output is certainly worth considering further, maybe their first release just as they changed their name from the Majestics. The promo copies of this track are under the name Majestics while the stock copies are credited to the Monitors. It’s the sweet slow ballad…

Nostalgia Trip

I stumbled across this old compilation today and gave it a spin. It featured our old Chi-Town buddy, Mello, one of the original crew, who has sadly since passed. It brought back such fond memories of Mello, I thought I would post it as a chance for those listeners to reminisce who have been with us since way back when, and for those newer visitors who missed out on those early days of the blogs.

RossyBoy & Mello's Double Cross

This was a double cross collaboration which I think got posted on the undergroundsoul4life blog in late 2009. The concept was that we both sent six tracks to each other; then we reacted to the other's picks by choosing six further tracks each. The response track might be prompted by a word in the title, the group or artist's name, or something off-the-wall depending on the responder's warped mind ! But this particular one, the first double cross, never quite got to total completion because Mello had some kind of technical problem at the time - normally it would have been 24 tracks.  Not sure which of us came up with each track - it's been a while !  Hope you like this slice of nostalgia !
