TALK ABOUT DUSTY, THIS IS LONG OVERDUE BUT WE HOPE IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! HERE YOU HAVE 2 CHICAGOANS DOING THEIR THING. AT THE TIME MELLO & I WERE DISCUSSING THE TITLE FOR THIS COMP, WE SETTLED ON SOULDIEZ INSTEAD OF DUSTIES & FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT "DUSTY" REPRESENTS, IT IS WHAT DISCRIBES OLD 45 RECORDS HERE IN CHI-TOWN THAT DON'T GET PLAYED OFTEN THEREFORE MAKING THEM DUSTYS, HENCE, IS WHERE MY NICKNAME CAME FROM...LOCAL RADIO DEEJAY'S HERB KENT & THE LATE RICHARD PEGUE FROM THE OLDIE STATIONS WANTED TO TAKE CREDIT OF THE INVENTED DUSTY RECORD NAME, BUT I KNOW IT WAS HERBIE BABY CUZ HE TOLD ME SO LOL...WELL WE HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY THIS WELL OVERDUE COMP THAT MELLO AND I HAVE COMPILED WITH SOME OF THE BEST GROUPS/ARTIST IN CHI-TOWN OR IN ANYWAY AFFILIATES WITH CHICAGO......WE WANT TO THANK ROSSYBOY FOR HIS DECORATING TALENTS ON THE CHICAGO THEATRE COVER, MAKING IT OUR VERY OWN HOME GROWN SOULDIEZ COMPILATION...ENJOY!

Some 411 Mello and I came up with if interested...

01. Otis Brown & the Delights - Southside Chicago (DustyRose)
1966 - Ole Records
Brown and his ad hoc group the Delights are so delighted about coming from here they sing "South Side Chicago" some 38 times through the record.....
02. Kaldirons - To Love Someone (That Don't Love You) (Mello)
1970 - Twinight
Becoming one of Twinight's most obscure singles, with purportedly less than 500 copies ever distributed. This failure is hard to reconcile against the song itself: In short, it's a monster of a ballad....
03. Impressions - Guess What I’ve Got (DustyRose)
Curtom - 1974
Ralph Johnson were among the replacements & who sings the lead on this gem...
04. Dee Clark - Warm Summer Breezes (Mello)
1964 - Constellation
05. Artistics - Being In Love (DustyRose)
1972 - Brunswick
06. Mighty Marvelows - I'm Without A Girl (Mello)
1968 - ABC Records
07. Donald Jenkins & Delighters - (Native Girl) Elephant Walk (Take 2) (DustyRose)
Cortland - 1962 (Possibly re-issued on Black Beauty CHEST, or ASTRA Labels)
Formed in Chicago's South Side in1955 as The Fortunes, later recorded both as The Starr Brothers and Donald Jenkins & the Daylighters/Delighters.
08. Billy Butler & Infinity - Now You Know (Mello)
1972 - Pride
09. Fascinations - Such A Fool (DustyRose)
Mayfield - 1968
10. Lovehorn - If (Mello)
1972 - Zodiac
11. Starr Brothers - Don Juan (DustyRose)
1963 - Cortland
(Brothers Donald Jenkins and Ronnie Strong)
Ronnie Strong of The Ideals, Donald Jenkins of the Delighters
If you have the cortland 45 w/Don Juan/Go Gorilla
(A little info from a former Radio DeeJay I know, that this was a typo
on The Ideals doing this A -Side, the typo was never corrected on cortlands 45's & were released )
12. Nolan Chance - I'll Never Forget You (Mello)
Thomas - 1969
13. Vibrations - Remember The Rain (DustyRose)
1968 - Okeh
14. Chi-Lites - (Um, Um) My Baby Loves Me (Mello)
1968 - Revue
15. The Fabulous El Dorados - Ease The Pain (DustyRose)
1987 - Delano
16. Jerry Butler & The Impressions - The Gift Of Love (Mello)
Abner - 1958
17. The Ideals - Tell Her I Apologize
1966 - St. Lawrence
18. Jo Ann Garrett - Stay By My Side (Mello)
1966 - Chess
She recorded this song at the age of 15 for Chess
after appearing at the Regal Theatre
19. Tony Clarke - This Heart Of Mine (DustyRose)
Chess - 1964
20. Cicero Blake - You Got Me Walking (Mello)

1965 - Argo
24. Mystique - All Of My Life (Mello)
Curtom 1977
25. The Mystics - I'll Never Forget You (DustyRose)
1967 - Teako
I went to school with a couple of these guys, They did lots of weddings & dances in my old nieghborhood....
26. Earth Wind & Fire - I Think About Lovin' You (Mello)
Warner - 1972
Lead vocalist on this record is Sherry Scott who wrote and sang lead on this groups first hit single ....

  1. Thank you DustyRose and Mello! Excellent compilation here to soothe the most savage of beasts. Tracks 10 and 17 really stand out...I phrase lik this: "If I had another chance, I'd apologize." This is true to life for me and I really identify with those two tracks. BIG thanks again for gracing our ears with such classics...Peace & Love always.
